The name Wiera comes from the word “faith”.

And Mrs. Wiera is really a woman of faith  who bravely faces adversities: first the death of her husband, then problems with the veins and infirmity. She lives alone in a village bordering Belarus, a very uncertain place now. In addition, her house is hard to access due to it’s location away from the road.

The woman has always been very independent, but with age, her health began to decline. She came under the care of the Prophet Elijah’s Hospice in September 2020 with leg ulcers and phlebitis and festering wounds on her legs. Weak and ill, she required medical intervention. Our help began with the excision of the hematoma on the leg. Since then, Ms Wiera has been under the constant care of our nurse, who came to her 3 times a week until the wounds healed.

Today, the old woman uses crutches and her leg problems are under our constant control. Our nurse visits her twice a week to take care of the ulcers. Lady Vera’s condition is slowly improving.

The children come home from time to time, but their own families and jobs do not allow them to stay longer with their mother. The woman is also visited by a caregiver from communal welfare center. Thanks to her, the house is clean and the fridge is never empty. Mrs. Wiera cannot complain about loneliness. A neighbor from the village is another good soul who visits her every day, keeping her company.

You can learn cheerfulness from Mrs. Wiera despite adversities. We are glad that we were able to reach her, take care of her and watch her recover.
