Mr. Gregory was born and has lived all his life in the village of Krzywiec. He was close to school, as it was literally “over the fence.” He graduated from an agricultural vocational school and began working at the Agricultural Production Cooperative in Krzywiec as a tractor operator. He met his wife while working in Tyniewicze Duże, where she was a cook in the company canteen. She was pretty, so she immediately “caught his eye,” and when she poured his soup every day, he stared at her until he fell in love. She also showed interest in him. It was 1978 – the “winter of the century” – when he decided to go to Zina’s parents to ask for her hand in marriage. According to him, she agreed immediately because he was a handsome boy. Later that winter they did a lavish wedding. They settled in Krzywec. He continued to work at RSP and his wife raised their three children.
In July 2021, he suffered a stroke and hasn’t gotten out of bed since. His wife takes care of him from morning to evening and even at night she looks in, listening to see if anything bad is happening. He also praises his children very much for their care and help. The sons come very often, help their father sit in the wheelchair, do various exercises with him. The daughter lives abroad, so she comes rarely. He has been in home hospice since November 2021. He is visited by a doctor, a nurse (as needed) and a physiotherapist. As a result of the stroke, he had left-sided hemiparesis and speech impairment. Rehabilitation is bringing more and more benefits, today Mr. Gregory is more independent, he has one hand quite functional, he can hold a cup or spoon and even operates the remote control well, as he watches his favorite TV programs all day long. During our visits, he is cheerful and happy with the care he got from the home hospice.
